The Moon and Stars Can Be Yours is a freewheeling, far-roaming investigation into the contemporary world of spiritualism that began with Duzant’s obsessive collection of psychic fliers on the New York City subway system combined with ephemera from the NYPL Pictures Collection. In an age of increasing uncertainty, the wave of modern mysticism is always present, eagerly waiting to fill the void created by our digital lives. Duzant weaves together research-based writing with anecdotal stories, inviting the reader along for her ritualistic search for meaning, following the path of the Spiritualist and New Age movements.
The Moon and Stars Can Be Yours is playfully designed, the holographic foil and neon paper stocks are inspired by the fliers found on the subway. In the back of each book, a scratch off fortune card awaits the reader. The Moon and Stars Can Be Yours is the third book by Magali Duzant published by Conveyor Editions. Her previous books Light Blue Desire and I Looked & Looked, will also be available at the launch.
Who Takes Care of New York? at Queens Museum
Whole Queens Catalog is a free ( limited print run ) publication commissioned for Who Takes Care of New York? an exhibition at the Queens Museum co-organized by the NY Urban Field Station ( US Forest Service ), NYC Parks, Pratt Institute’s Spatial Analysis and Visualization Initiative, and independent curator Christina Freeman.
The catalog takes inspiration from Stewart Brand’s 1960s American counterculture magazine and product catalo, Whole Earth. Consisting of anecdotes, recipes, disaster survival techniques, and other wisdom, the piece, a two sided large scale folded green newsprint, represents a practical, sometimes goofy, ode to community groups and the work they do. The stewardship groups identified in the catalog were found using the NYC STEW-MAP, a searchable database of city based stewarding organizations.

MFA Photography, Video and Related Media alumnus and faculty member Jeremy Haik (2012) moderates a discussion about longtime faculty member Marvin Heiferman’s latest book and project, Seeing Science, featuring Heiferman, alumnus and artist Sarah Palmer (2008) and Magali Duzant of Conveyor Arts. Refreshments will be provided and visitors are invited to browse the book fair following the discussion.
Delirium, Three Visions // Denver
Light Blue Desire and In Waiting; The Sea will be on view at Redline Contemporary Art Center in the exhibition Delirium, Three Visions, as part of Denver’s Month of Photography from March 9 - April 7, 2019. Curated by George P. Perez, John Lake, and Mark Sink.
Eschewing traditional notions of imagery, this exhibit aims to shake, disrupt, and dizzy our understanding of visual culture and modern society. Photography is both a broken concept and an ever expanding medium; fluctuating between complacent states of being and important diverse artistic models. Delirium: Three Visions, is a photo-based exhibit highlighting critical contemporary voices and amplifying challenging artists working in and around modes of photography.

On Love : A Crystallization at the Queens Museum
On Love : A Crystallization is the first in a series of walks exploring Stendhal’s crystallization theory of love. On view at the Queens Museum from October 28 - December 2 is a double sided newsprint broad side featuring an abstracted research map to accompany the walk. I will be leading a version of the walk on November 11th.

I will be speaking about Light Blue Desire on a panel at the Brooklyn Book Festival this month!
Words are just one way to tell a story, as any photographer, designer, or visual artist will tell you. But how do you craft a strong narrative when you employ one of these alternative storytelling formats? On this panel, photographer Cig Harvey (You an Orchestra You a Bomb), photographer Cecil McDonald, Jr. (In the Company of Black), and multidisciplinary artist Magali Duzant (Light Blue Desire) will discuss their processes for imparting a vision through images, artist books, and more. Moderated by VICE photography columnist Elyssa Goodman.

Works On Water
I am an artist in residence at Works On Water's Governor's Island studio through July 22nd this summer. I am developing a new artist book that takes an experimental approach to a field guide of NYC water - looking at the linguistics of water and the history of hidden, disappeared waterways throughout the boroughs. Studio 5B in Nolan Park is open every weekend from 11-5.

I CAN SEE FOR MILES
To long is to yearn for something or someone, to desire the impractical or impossible. It is to stare out at the yawning distance and in doing so discover some kind of beauty in the quiet moments that meet us there.
In Rebecca Solnit’s Field guide to getting Lost, she uses the faded blue distance on the horizon line as an elegy for this kind of yearning. Solnit describes how the colour blue of that distance between you and the horizon represents an emotion, a kind of solitude and desire for what was and what could be.
I can see for miles presents the work of artists from Australia, New Zealand and New York whose practices explore the language of distance - both physical and emotional.
